How bills become laws...
Before laws are made, they start off as a bill. The Prime Minister and the executive Government decides new laws and introduces the bill to parliament. The bill is now up for debate.
The bills are then considered by parliament during the debate. They might talk to the community to see what their opinion is. The members may vote on minor changes to the bill to make more sense.
If the bill is passed by parliament, it may be approved by the governer general who gives the bill 'royal assent' on behalf of the king of England.
Once the bill has been signed by the governer general, the departments will now put the bill into action, officially making it a law.
